Sam Salo, Homeschool Tutor

Sam Salo, a college graduate and former homeschooler, operates a tutoring studio for homeschooled teen, high school, and college-aged students. He is currently accepting a limited amount of students for in-home, online, and group tutoring. (Near the SMU area or any radius within 10 miles of downtown Dallas, Texas, but mostly online.) Sam was granted a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree by Charter Oak State College via testing. His background is primarily in mathematics, quantum studies, and physics. He offers tutoring in math, physics, and other science disciplines. He also teaches test prep and strategies for ACT/SAT, CLEP, DANTES, ECE, etc. Additionally, Sam is a part-time computer programmer, game designer, and artist who has done freelance photography, comic book illustration, and concept art. So he can help students who want to learn programming, graphic arts, animation, or photography. Sam uses initial consultations to understand how serious the student is about learning, or as he puts it, “will the student put a lot of mustard into what they’re doing?” Sam introduces himself in the letter below.

Greetings,

My name is Sam Salo, and I run a tutoring studio that specializes in CLEP and college credit tests, video game design, and other subjects. I tutor online and in-person (in select locations). I offer tutoring to both help and augment a student’s current classwork, and I also offer tutoring that can serve as a student’s class in a particular subject. Below is a broad overview of the topics I teach. I have also included my Facebook page link.

Subjects:

-CLEPs and college credit tests (topics include achieving a degree through testing, taking individual tests, the art and “science” of test-taking, and more)
-ACT/SAT testing
-Core junior high and high school subjects, including mathematics, biology, chemistry, English, writing, and literature
-Graphic design, typography, and photography
-Video game design, including game theory, introductory programming, and introductory mobile game design
-Art, comic art, digital art
-Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator

Formats of tutoring offered:

-One-on-one sessions
-Groups (classes)
-Supplemental tutoring and teaching for a student’s preexisting classes
-Teaching by invitation from a group or school

Notes about curriculums and online tutoring: 

-If a student is using a curriculum for a subject, I will use that with my teaching. If a student needs a recommendation for learning materials, I can provide the learning materials and curriculums.

-For online tutoring, I use Skype (or Google+, FaceTime, or another online whiteboard option). Through webcams and screensharing, it is simple, fluid, and fun.

Rates:

-My rates are $25-30/hour, depending on the subjects. I tutor both one-on-one sessions and group sessions, depending on the needs and requests of individual students and families.
