Synopsis
Jess is a young woman trapped in the vicious cycle of opioid addiction. When she crosses paths with an elderly man named Charles, she becomes part of his final mission to pray for people in the community. As their lives intertwine, Jess is forced to confront her past, think about her choices, and consider what it really means to be free. As Charles prays to be used “just one more” time, Jess must decide if she’ll surrender her life to Jesus before it’s too late.
Background
This movie is actually based on two true stories: one about the director’s wife’s cousin who was battling drug addiction, and another about a man with cancer who went out witnessing to the community in his final days. The directors had the idea to combine these stories to make this awesome feature film.

Review
“Did you ever wonder how it works? How a tiny pill can ruin your entire life?”
Jess, a teen struggling to break free from her opioid addiction, is jogging through the neighborhood and unexpectedly comes across an elderly man who spends his days in a lawn chair beside a simple yard sign:
“Stop and let’s pray about it.”
What starts as a chance encounter becomes a pivotal turning point – opening the door for God’s bountiful grace to come flooding in, and sparking a personal transformation in which Jess begins to discover hope and healing. Through newfound friendships and growing faith, Jess finds the strength to fight for a future beyond addiction.
JUST ONE MORE is an emotional, character-driven story of redemption, perseverance, and the life-changing impact one person can have on another. The film is very slow-moving, but it still captivated me with its raw emotion and thought-provoking exploration of compassion toward others. The compelling storyline showcases the resilience of the human spirit and the power of community connection.
Even if you’re not a drug addict, everyone has their own personal hardships. I’m sure you can think of a time in your life when you felt exhausted or defeated and just wanted to give up. Regardless of past mistakes, you can approach life with hope, because nobody is beyond another chance. The Bible is filled with stories illustrating God’s mercy, grace, and willingness to give second chances.
Jess: “At times in my life I’ve reached out to God, but nothing happened. I felt nothing.”
Charles: “You keep reaching. He’s gonna be there.”
At its heart, JUST ONE MORE is about choosing hope one more time, even when life feels impossible. Rest assured, every day is a new opportunity to turn to God and live according to His will. Strength is often found in simply refusing to give in to addiction or sin. When you’re going through a difficult season, there’s a reason to keep going. A better future is always worth fighting for.
This inspirational drama was filmed in Pennsylvania, and the cinematography is excellent! Handheld shaky close-ups, tight shots, and quick cuts during Jess’s lowest moments create a sense of instability and claustrophobia. Also, the shift from cold and dark to warm and light is a noticeable visual arc. The juxtaposition of Jess’s blurry shadowy world and Charles’s bright sunlit scenes symbolizes John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
JUST ONE MORE is a great example of high-quality storytelling with something meaningful to say. In a world full of cynical entertainment, this story actually uplifts you. It will leave you feeling reflective, encouraged, and inspired. The movie is faith-based without being heavy-handed or preachy. While it’s a Christian film, it does have one instance of minor language and includes gritty scenes that focus on substance abuse. For that reason, it’s rated TV-14 (PG-13).
I’m amazed at how Angel keeps putting out movies that make you want to be a better person. Angel is doing what many studios stopped doing – telling stories with emotional depth, purpose, and heart. I especially love how some of the most inspirational stories are true stories. JUST ONE MORE is one of those movies that stays with you.
