Exerpeutic Adjustable Desk Recumbent Exercise Bike

Exerpeutic Adjustable Desk Recumbent Exercise Bike

By Tab Olsen

It’s that time of year when almost everyone’s made a New Year’s Resolution to get in shape, right? But you know how after about six months the exercise bikes and weight benches turn into clothing racks instead? Well, I’m happy to say that I’m still using the exercise bike that my family bought a year ago AND another one that I bought seven years ago! So keep reading if you’re in the market for an exercise bike.

I’m the one who reviewed the DeskCycle back in 2016. I still love my DeskCycle and I’m using it right now as I write this. Read my DeskCycle review here and a review of the wobble chair that I use with it here. I still stand by everything I wrote in those reviews.

In addition, our family bought another bike last year that’s in our family room: it’s the Exerpeutic Adjustable Desk Recumbent Bike. That’s the one I’m going to review right now. (What can I say, we like biking!)

The problem is, you can’t find an exercise bike in a store anymore to try out before purchasing. (I’m talking about affordable bikes for regular people, not like a fancy Peloton showroom!) We had looked at a lot of exercise bikes online but couldn’t be sure. Then a family friend recommended the Exerpeutic Adjustable Desk Recumbent Bike and we found it on Amazon. Finally, at least we had something to go by, from someone trustworthy.

Now if you’re in the market for an exercise bike, I’m going to be that trusted source for you. 🙂

The Exerpeutic Adjustable Desk Recumbent Bike is an excellent multipurpose exercise bike. Its full name is the “EXERPEUTIC 2500 Bluetooth ExerWork 3-Way Adjustable Desk Recumbent Bike.” Overall, it’s a good quality exercise bike that’s actually a great value for the money. For one thing, it’s much cheaper and more convenient than a gym membership!

Unlike some recumbent bikes, the Exerpeutic is nice and compact so it doesn’t take up too much space. It requires a floor area of about 2 ft. wide x 4.5 ft. long. We have ours tucked tightly into a corner of the room. It’s literally pushed up against a bookcase with a couple of inches to spare on the side, but it can be easily used that way. It’s not like you’re going to be waving your arms around while biking. Well, sometimes you might. But I can also pull it out or turn it at an angle if I want more space around me while biking.

This exercise bike comes with its own attached desktop, great for kids who can’t sit still while being homeschooled or doing online school! The desk is a really nice feature, but you don’t have to use it as a desk. I can bike while reading a book or magazine, using my tablet, watching TV, listening to music, or just doing a simple workout. I always look forward to my daily bike ride that gets me going in the morning and warms me up on cold days.

The desk is tiltable with seven angle adjustments from 0 to 30 degrees. The desktop height is also adjustable from 36.5 – 41 inches. There is a substantial lip at the bottom so you don’t have to worry about your laptop or tablet sliding off. Two cup holders are molded right into the plastic. They’re super sturdy and can be used for holding your water bottle, pencils, bookmarks, cellphone, even a couple of 3-pound weights. (The desktop holds up to 44 lbs maximum weight, but I doubt if any book or laptop is going to weigh anything near that much!)

If you lay the desk flat, it doubles as a snack table. Seriously, it’s perfect for eating a microwave meal while watching Netflix because the desktop has a large 24”L X 16”W surface along with the two built-in cup holders for your condiments, drink, or pudding dessert. The thick plastic surface is easy to wipe off if you spill anything. (I know, eating while sitting on an exercise bike probably detracts from its purpose – but hey, it works!)

The foam cushioned seat is extra large (17” L x 13” W), with air holes that help the seat remain cool even after many hours of use. The oversized soft seat will be comfortable through all your workouts as well as for biking (or sitting and eating) while watching a long movie. The sliding seat is infinitely adjustable for users from 5 to 6 feet in height. So the Exerpeutic bike is good for tall kids, teens, and adults but not for little kids. The weight capacity is a maximum of 250 lbs.

At first I didn’t like how the seat attachment seemed a little loose and wobbled from side to side, but now I’m used to it and hardly notice any movement. It really is a great seat, and it’s easy to wipe clean too. Plus the 3-angle adjustable backrest provides comfortable back support while exercising. Recumbent bikes in general are better than those upright bikes with the tiny seats if you’re going to be using it while watching a movie or biking for any length of time.

Other than the slightly wobbly seat at first, the bike is really well-built with a durable and stable steel frame construction. The open step-through design makes it easy to get on and off the bike, too. The bike itself doesn’t rock or tip or budge from its spot due to its heavy frame. The adjustment pins are super strong, too, with large knobs for easy turning. Everything about this bike was well-thought-out.

A “Quiet Drive” magnetic belt system allows smooth and noiseless workout sessions. The bike features 14 levels of smooth magnetic tension resistance to challenge yourself. Plus it’s quiet enough to bike while enjoying a movie, which is an easy way to rack up over 20 miles at a time without even realizing it. An LCD screen displays distance, calories burned, time, speed, odometer, and you can set it to scan between all of those or stay on one setting if you want to keep your eye on your speed, for example. 2 AAA batteries are included so you can get started right away.

This bike connects to Bluetooth and comes with a free MyCloudFitness app so you have the ability to set workout goals, track your workouts, and more. However, I can’t say anything about this because I’ve never used it. I just keep track of my times, miles, and calories on a spreadsheet. (It also serves as a record for homeschool P.E. credit.)

The bike has soft grip handle bars for pushing through intense workouts, so they say, but I don’t really use them much; I find myself gripping the sides of the desk in front of me more often. The foam-covered hand grips on the sides of the seat are too low to be used as an arm rest. So if you think they’ll be in the way, you wouldn’t even need to attach them if you didn’t want to.

The designers really tried to think of everything with this exercise bike! It’s adjustable in so many different ways. It’s a good-looking bike, too, with rounded surfaces and solid-looking metal. The shiny blue rim around the flywheel is a nice added touch that makes the bike look more elegant. The flywheel is fully enclosed so fingers can’t get caught. But watch out if you’re pedaling fast and little kids are in the room so they don’t get bumped!

This product is shipped in two boxes. Both arrived on the same day for us, although it’s possible they might arrive a few days apart if they get separated during transit. You will need help carrying it in, as the larger of the two boxes weighs over 70 pounds. You will also want some help putting it together, as two people will make the job a lot easier.

Be sure to look at the picture and follow the instructions. At first we put the rear feet on the front part but something didn’t seem right when we picked up one end and tried to roll it. Then we realized we had it backwards. The rollers go on the front for easy maneuvering of the heavy bike. But don’t worry, the bike sits flat and sturdy on the floor. You have to pick up the rear part and tilt the bike forward in order to roll it.

Now you can get your work done, have fun, and stay healthy at the same time! Burn calories and reach your fitness goals while you work, read, or enjoy a movie with the EXERPEUTIC 2500 ExerWork Bluetooth Desk Recumbent Bike. It’s not too late to start getting in shape.
