Review
NO ADDRESS is a 2-hour movie that follows the harrowing journey of Lauren, a young woman who comes home from her high school graduation only to be locked out of the house and forced to fend for herself. Having been in foster care since her mother passed away unexpectedly when she was eight, Lauren has no family or true friends to rely on. With no place to stay, she finds herself on the street and vulnerable.
When you turn 18, it can be difficult to find a place to live, especially for foster youth who suddenly become responsible for managing their own lives. Homelessness is a significant issue for these teens, with a high percentage of them ending up on the streets. I can’t believe a foster parent would just throw them out like that!
Each year, approximately 23,000 youth exit the foster care system in the United States. The statistics reveal the harsh realities of what these young adults endure:
- 1 in 3 foster youth in the state of California face homelessness after leaving the child welfare system
- 1 in 10 young adults aged 18-25 experience homelessness annually
- 20% of youth who age out of foster care become unhoused almost immediately
- 1 in 3 teens on the street are lured into sex work or sex trafficking within 48 hours of leaving home
- 7 out of 10 girls who age out of the foster care system will become pregnant before the age of 21
Fortunately, Lauren manages to escape danger and meets Jimmy, a compassionate teen who invites her into his unconventional family – an eclectic group of homeless people. Alongside the makeshift family of outcasts – each with their own haunting story of struggle and loss – Lauren discovers that home is not just a place, but the people who refuse to let you fall.
Filmed exclusively in Sacramento, California, NO ADDRESS is a raw and unflinching look at the dark realities of homelessness. As if it’s not bad enough being homeless and simply trying to survive from day to day, you have to beware of thieves and hoodlums who are also out on the streets and will take advantage of you.
Then there are local authorities who don’t really care, and a whole city of people who either ignore you or want to get rid of you. I like the motel clerk character (played by Jeffrey Weissman), who knew how to recognize suspicious behavior and wasn’t afraid to take action when needed.
NO ADDRESS provides a realistic portrayal of Lauren and her new-found family’s fight for survival against gangs, vigilantes, and an uncompassionate community. As these individuals face the hardships of daily life in unimaginable circumstances, they find the strength to overcome obstacles through their unbreakable bond of true friendship.
This movie contains references to faith and prayer, and there is a church that they go to which I assume is near the homeless camp, but the Christian community doesn’t play as big a role in this movie as it should – until finally toward the end there is a shout-out to The Salvation Army.
Even though I recommend it, I’m not going to lie, this movie isn’t fun to watch! It keeps hitting you over the head with one distressing situation after another. I felt so bad for these people the whole time! It’s more like a call-to-action film that will make you want to do something to help those who find themselves homeless through no fault of their own.
The NO ADDRESS soundtrack features Ashanti singing “Bonafide Survivor,” an uplifting spiritual song, and Sally Seltmann’s haunting “Dancing in the Darkness,” as well as inspirational tracks by Alexander Pappas, Ryan Griffin, Merripennie, Rachael Lampa, Fred Hammond, Chynna & Vaughan, Montell Jordan, Ron Artis II, Raquel Cole & Todd Tilghman, and Christian Anderson Band.
NO ADDRESS is unrated, but I would say it’s equivalent to PG-13. It explores some mature themes such as addiction, mental health, loss and grief. It contains dysfunctional families, violence, and death, but nothing graphic.

Homelessness Statistics
- There are 1.2 million adults and 1.5 million children experiencing homelessness nationwide.
- Between 2022 and 2023, street-level homelessness increased 12% nationwide. If this rate continues, street-level homelessness will double in 5-6 years.
- Before 2014, the number of unsheltered individuals dropped by 31.4% between 2007 and 2014, thanks to intensive wraparound services and participation requirements in most homelessness assistance programs. This progress was reversed when the federal government cut funding for supportive services and removed participation requirements.

Homelessness is a very big issue here. I have not had any interaction with homeless people other than giving them money.
Homelessness an issue in my community.
I’ve had several experiences interacting with people who are homeless at the community center, gas stations, stores and other areas. I listen, give encouragement and help out as much as possible.
Homelessness is an issue in my community. It got more attention lately when the weather was cold. Thankfully there is a shelter that takes in the homeless.

Homelessness isn’t a big issue, I don’t think in my current community but I have had experiences with homeless people when I lived in a larger, more urban city for a while.
Thankfully, I haven’t had any personal connections to homelessness through myself, family or friends.
It is spreading in our city for sure. We have a large refugee community and many get lost in the system. Sadly!
Homelessness is a very serious issue here where we live. Housing is not affordable at all and is is super scary. I will provide my last via email if I am the winner for privacy reasons.
I’m looking forward to seeing this important movie with my family.
