Why the Ten Commandments Belong in Classrooms

In an increasingly secular world, the Ten Commandments remain a timeless and essential moral code for Judeo-Christian ethics. These commandments laid the foundation for shaping the ethical principles that have guided individuals and societies for centuries, as detailed by My Bible Speaks.

We are not a Christian country because of a national religion, but rather because the country itself is based upon those values, which most Americans used to abide by.

Which is precisely why teaching about the Ten Commandments and Christian values in American schools is not only very constitutional but essential as well.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Louisiana became the first state to require the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every public school classroom.

H.B. 71, which was signed into law by Governor Jeff Landry in June, mandates that a poster-sized display of the Ten Commandments in “large, easily readable font” be shown all public classrooms. This includes K-12 education and state-funded universities like Louisiana State University (LSU).

The law requires that the posters be at least 11 inches by 14 inches and that “the text of the Ten Commandments shall be the central focus of the poster.” The posters will also include a lengthy statement intended to provide context for the display, stating, “The Ten Commandments were a prominent part of American public education for almost three centuries.” The posters will be purchased with donations, and public schools are not required to spend money on the displays.

Legislators in other states, such as Texas, Utah, and Oklahoma, have proposed requiring legislation similar to Louisiana’s. But fear of lawsuits has prevented the measures from being implemented into state law.

A federal judge in Louisiana issued a preliminary injunction Tuesday temporarily blocking the new state law mandating the display of the Ten Commandments in all public classrooms.

The law, which was set to go into effect on January 1, was deemed “unconstitutional on its face” by U.S. District Judge John W. deGravelles, who argued that it served an “overtly religious” purpose.

However, in this case it isn’t being taught as religion – it’s history and civics.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill intends to challenge the ruling through an appeal.

“We strongly disagree with the court’s decision and will immediately appeal, as H.B. 71’s implementation deadline is approaching on January 1, 2025,” she wrote.

The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 9:10). If we want to know right from wrong, if we want to know how to live the good life, if we want to know how to live in a way that blesses our friends and neighbors, we’d be wise to pay careful attention to the Ten Commandments.

Whether you’re a devout churchgoer or not, the Ten Commandments are good rules to live by.

Governor Landry said that he believes that having the Commandments posted in schools will help reduce crime and violence, using the recent shooting of former president Donald Trump by Thomas Matthew Crooks as an example.

“I would submit that maybe if the Ten Commandments were hanging on the wall in the school that he was in, maybe he wouldn’t have taken a shot” at President Donald Trump.

But hey, we’re homeschoolers, so we can put a great big Ten Commandments poster on our wall if we want to, and no one can say anything about it! Ever since I was in kindergarten, I’ve always liked stained glass, so I have a Ten Commandments suncatcher which is pretty cool too.

In other news, Oklahoma State School Superintendent Ryan Walters has announced that the state has purchased 500 Bibles, which he plans to use in AP government classrooms across the state to once again teach the Christian values this nation was founded upon. He made it clear that woke teacher’s unions pushing hatred for America and the radical left’s attack on religious liberty in schools will no longer be tolerated.

“Our kids have to understand the role the Bible played in influencing American history,” he said while announcing his Bible program, adding, “It’s very clear that the radical left has driven the Bible out of the classroom, which leads to a lack of understanding of American history.”

“We will not stop until we’ve brought the Bible back to every classroom in the state,” he said, indicating that AP history classrooms are just the beginning. Good for him! Let’s Make America Godly Again!
