Study With Me: Pomodoro Radio is Live!

In case you missed it, Lofi Girl’s brand new Pomodoro radio is now LIVE! Boost your productivity with the Pomodoro Technique! Study/work with viewers from around the world on a livestream with study beats and a Pomodoro timer (in the lower right corner of the screen) so that everyone studies/works and takes breaks at the same time!

Pomodoro Radio started streaming on September 5, 2024. Lofi Girl said, “I’m super excited to be introducing this new radio to you all, and I’m hoping you love it as much as I do! Join me now on YouTube.”

The Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro study method is a time management and productivity technique that involves setting a timer for 25 minutes and using that time for focused work until the timer rings, followed by a short break. It was first developed by Francesco Cirillo in 1987. Each 25-minute interval is known as a pomodoro, from the Italian word for tomato, after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a university student.

Many students use the Pomodoro Technique to manage their study sessions, helping them to stay focused and avoid burnout. Authors, researchers, and artists use it to maintain creativity and productivity without feeling overwhelmed. Knowledge workers and software developers often use this method to break down their work into manageable intervals, improving productivity and focus. Anyone with a task that doesn’t have a clear endpoint, such as studying for an exam or working on a long-term project, will find the Pomodoro Technique useful.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Choose a task you want to work on.
  2. Set a timer for 25 minutes and focus solely on that task until the timer rings.
  3. Take a short break (usually 5 minutes) after the timer goes off.
  4. Repeat the process. After completing four pomodoros, take a longer break (15-30 minutes).

The Pomodoro method helps reduce distractions, improve concentration, and prevent burnout by giving your brain regular breaks. I also like that it reminds me to get up out of my chair and move at regular intervals!

Studies have shown that standing up at least every 20-25 minutes, even if for only a minute or two, reduces your risk of developing diabetes and heart disease. This is because standing up and moving around helps break up fat in the bloodstream so it doesn’t accumulate. On the contrary, staying sedentary for too long makes you sleepy and gain weight. So walk around if you can, but at the very least, stand up during your breaks!

How to use the Pomodoro Radio livestream:

  1. Choose a task.
  2. Study like Lofi Girl for 25 minutes.
  3. Take a 5-min break with Lofi Girl.
  4. Repeat 4 times.
  5. Reward yourself with 15 minute break!

I try to ignore the live chat on Lofi Girl’s study channel – after all, you’re supposed to keep focused and avoid distractions – but still it’s nice to feel like you’re part of a far-flung community of people studying and working together, if not in the same place, at least at the same time.
