Letter from the Editor: September 2021

Happy September!

Whether you got back to homeschooling before Labor Day or are just getting into it now, I hope your school year is off to a good start! September has always been one of my favorite months because it’s full of new beginnings – a new season, a new school year, new books and new classes.

This September is also jam-packed with special events including not just one, but THREE powerful films coming to theaters! Here is my list of things not to miss…

September 10 – Kendrick Brothers’ SHOW ME THE FATHER in theaters! This is the first documentary film from the makers of WAR ROOM and OVERCOMER. It features a variety of amazing and unique true stories about fathers. The captivating movie takes audiences of all ages on an inspiring and emotional cinematic journey. It provides a fresh perspective on the roles of fathers in today’s society, inviting you to think differently about how you view your earthly father and also how you personally relate to your Heavenly Father.

September 11 – On the 20th anniversary of 9/11, worship leader and songwriter Sean Feucht is calling on all Christians to come together for a Day of Prayer For America. LET US WORSHIP Washington DC will take place on at the National Mall to remember the fallen, honor the first responders and military, pray for our troops, and petition heaven for healing over our land.

September 12 – GRANDPARENTS DAY is celebrated the first Sunday after Labor Day, which is September 12th this year. Do something grand with your grandparents or older adults in your community.

September 13FREE BURMA RANGERS encore in theaters! FREE BURMA RANGERS tells the incredible true story of the Eubank homeschool family that risked everything to free the oppressed on the front lines of war. If you wonder what it’s like to be a civilian in a war zone, and if you missed it the first time, watch the encore presentation of this award-winning film. Mark your calendars, gather your friends, and spread the word.

September 17 – Celebrate CONSTITUTION DAY! A thorough knowledge of the Constitution is more important today than ever. The Citizens Rule Book (printed by my family!) contains the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and quotes by Founding Fathers. Consider distributing this handy pocket-sized booklet to family, friends, homeschoolers, co-workers, church members, community groups. Only $1 each! Order online at HomeschoolPatriot.

September 18 – Get ready for SMITHSONIAN MUSEUM DAY with free admission at participating museums! Experience America on Saturday, September 18th as we celebrate curiosity by exploring inspiring museums and cultural centers across the country. To find a museum and get a ticket, go to smithsonianmag.com/museumday. You’ll be able to download your free ticket immediately, or have it e-mailed to you.

September 24 – COURAGEOUS LEGACY in theaters nationwide! Ten years ago this fall, COURAGEOUS opened in theaters around the world. Filled with heart-pounding action, laugh-out-loud humor, and powerful inspiration, COURAGEOUS has entertained and impacted families across the globe for the past decade. Now, from the Kendrick Brothers, creators of the No. 1 box-office movie OVERCOMER, comes COURAGEOUS LEGACY, the remastered, special-edition release for a new generation. This updated version of the film includes an enhanced look and sound along with impact stories, new scenes, and a new bonus ending! Personally I have mixed feelings about this. The scenes of intense sadness and grief were a bit too much for me, but I am curious about the updated ending as the original movie left me wondering how everything worked out for several of the characters. The original movie was over 2 hours long as it was, so it also will be interesting to see how they re-edited it to add new scenes. Watch the trailer.

September 25 – All national parks will waive entrance fees on this day for NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY. It celebrates the connection between people and green space, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. FYI, the National Park Service turned 105 years old last month!

I hope you are able to engage your family and friends in some of these events!

Happy Homeschooling!
