Letter from the Editor – May 2021

Dear Readers,

Happy May! Guess what: May is Homeschool Awareness Month! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 4-8, followed by Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 9 – so be sure to do something nice for your mom who teaches you so much!

The second week of May is National Etiquette Week. Its objective is to call attention to the importance of courtesy, civility, kindness, and practicing good manners in our daily lives. I’m sure we’d all appreciate a little more of that! You can download a copy of George Washington’s Rules of Civility for the occasion.

As the old familiar saying goes, “April showers bring May flowers.” This idiom is a reminder that even some “unpleasant” things – like too many rainy days in a row – can result in delightful things, like an abundance of flowers in May.

May is a great time to venture out and see all the blossoming flowers and other plants coming to life at this time of year. Whether you’re in the desert, by the ocean, or living in a mountain valley or forest, almost anywhere on Earth, you can find flowers in May.

May is also National Bike Month AND Physical Fitness & Sports Month – so get out there and explore and enjoy the outdoors!

Happy Homeschooling!

P.S. Since today is 5/4/21, I just have to say it: May the Fourth Be With You! 🙂

P.P.S. Oh, and tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. It’s turning out to be a busy week!
