Letter from the Editor – March 2023

Dear Readers,

Happy March!

Have you ever heard the old adage, “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb”?

That saying most likely got its start as an astronomical reference, referring to the position of the constellations Leo (a lion) and Aries (a ram, or lamb) in the night sky. Leo rises in the East at the beginning of March, and the month ends with Aries setting in the West. The statement also invokes a pretty accurate summation of March’s changing weather as the seasons change from winter to spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

Where we live, it’s like clockwork the way our final winter storm of the season usually comes the first week in March. (We learned our lesson to never schedule field trips during that time, LOL!) However, sometimes the stormy weather may be a week early or a week late – or like this year we got a double whammy, the last week in February AND the first week in March. (I feel so sorry for all the Californians who are still experiencing an onslaught of snow, rain, and flooding!)

As the transitional month of March marches along, it brings glimpses of Spring’s beauty and warmth. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, Spring Break is right around the corner, and before you know it, the first day of Spring will be here!

In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day coming up this month, here’s an Irish blessing for you.

May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the wind be always at your back.
May your blessings outnumber the shamrocks that grow.
And may trouble avoid you wherever you go. 🙂

Happy Homeschooling!
