Letter from the Editor: August/September 2022

Dear Readers,

Welcome to our August/September Back-to-School 2022 issue!

I hope you’ve been enjoying your summer. I’ve spent the summer months trying to get in shape while catching up on stuff around the house like shelf organizing, closet cleaning, and room rearranging. How about you? Did you take a class in summer school, get a part-time job, volunteer or go on a trip? Send your stories about what you did this summer to mail@homeschoolingteen.com for possible publication!

As per tradition, our travel season starts at the end of summer. We’re one of those homeschool families that travels in the off-season, after the start of the traditional school year. We’ll be exploring the Pacific Northwest for two weeks at the end of August and the beginning of September. That’s why we’re doing a combined Back-to-School edition, instead of separate August and September issues, because we’ll be on the road and away from our computers.

When it comes time for you to start the fall school season, whether it’s in August or September, remember that you can decide to do things differently this time around, or fall into old patterns. We have the choice to make the most of this new beginning, or else be a passive bystander in our own life. The choices that we make today will determine whether we lay a foundation for success, or ultimately end up getting schooled in real life.

This month’s articles offer a variety of ideas to make the most of your back-to-school time, as well as to help parents support their teens in their transition back to school.

Happy Homeschooling!
