Dear Readers,
Happy April! We finally did it! We’re back on track for publication on the first of the month! And it’s not even an April Fool’s joke!
April ushers in a whole month devoted to Spring, enjoying the outdoors, and getting busy doing things. For example, April is a good month for Spring cleaning. Declutter your room, pick up the yard, and start a garden while you’re at it!
National Park Week, an annual celebration of America’s national parks, will run from April 20 to April 28. Entrance fees to national parks are waived on April 19, 2025, to kick off the celebration and to encourage everyone to enjoy their national parks in person. It’s a great opportunity to explore the parks and engage with their beauty and history.
National Volunteer Week is celebrated annually during the third week of April and this year it will be observed from April 20 to April 26. Established in 1974 by the Points of Light Foundation, this special week promotes the important role that volunteers play in strengthening communities.
Easter is running a bit late this year due to where the lunar cycle falls on the calendar, but the time for hiding eggs, filling baskets, and celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ is almost here! Easter Sunday will be observed on April 20th.
Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year, encouraging education and stewardship of the planet’s natural resources. The first Earth Day was observed on April 22, 1970, when citizens were concerned about smog, polluted rivers, and other environmental hazards. This year is Earth Day’s 55th Anniversary!
On April 30th, celebrate The Day of the Homeschooled Child, which Grace wrote an article about in this issue.
And finally, April is National Poetry Month! So when you can’t play outside because of the rain, stay indoors and unleash your creativity! Write a poem with a Spring theme or write a haiku like in this month’s infographic.
Happy Homeschooling!
