Infographic: 12 Things to Always Remember

I love inspirational wall hangings, especially if they have quotes or sayings on them. I found this “12 Things to Always Remember” poster on Amazon. I thought it would be a good infographic for this month. I don’t know who created the original list, but there’s a lot of wisdom in it. I’ll explain the reasoning behind the sayings and what they mean to me below the image.

12 Things to Always Remember

  1. The past cannot be changed. Dwelling on past events and mistakes is futile, as we can’t alter what has already occurred. Instead of getting stuck in a loop of “what-ifs” and longing for a different outcome, acknowledging the past but also accepting its permanence allows us to focus on our present and future endeavors.
  2. Opinions don’t define your reality. This can have two meanings. First, don’t let other people’s opinions affect you. They’re just someone else’s perspective, shaped by their experiences, biases, and insecurities. Second, your opinion could be mistaken just like theirs can be. So don’t jump to conclusions based on your own prejudices; seek the real truth with an open mind.
  3. Everyone’s journey is different. Life is a journey, and no two paths are ever the same. We’re all different, and we all grow at different rates. Each person’s life experiences, struggles, and successes are unique. We can’t try to compare ourselves with one another, or we’ll only be unhappy with ourselves.
  4. Things always get better with time. If you’re having a hard time, this saying may be difficult to fathom, but it’s true. Whatever you’re going through right now won’t last. Don’t lose hope, because time brings perspective, new opportunities, and solutions to problems, regardless of current challenges.
  5. Judgements are often projections. In essence, a “projection” occurs when someone attributes their own thoughts, feelings, or traits to someone else, often unconsciously. For example, if someone accuses another person of being selfish, it could be because they themselves struggle with selfishness. In other words, what we notice—or are bothered by—in others can reflect something about ourselves. So when people judge others, they might actually be revealing their own insecurities, biases, or unresolved emotions.
  6. Overthinking will lead to sadness. Overthinking is the tendency to dwell on thoughts, analyzing situations excessively and replaying situations in our mind, and often imagining worst-case scenarios. Dwelling on negative possibilities, self-doubt, or past regrets can lead to a cycle of indecision and inaction. This only magnifies feelings of sadness or anxiety and lead to emotional distress.
  7. Happiness is found within. True contentment comes from our internal mindset, rather than from external circumstances like success, material possessions, or the approval of others. Happiness is all about cultivating inner peace, self-acceptance, and gratitude, regardless of what’s happening around us.
  8. Positive thoughts create positive things. The idea is that maintaining a positive attitude creates a ripple effect. When you focus on positive thoughts, you foster an optimistic perspective, which influences your actions, behaviors, and interactions, ultimately improving relationships and leading to more favorable results.
  9. Smiles are contagious. This phrase suggests that smiles have the power to spread from person to person. It’s based on the idea that when you see someone smiling, it naturally prompts you to smile as well, and subconsciously makes you feel happier. Try it!
  10. Kindness is free. Small acts of kindness—like offering a smile, lending a listening ear, or showing patience—don’t cost us anything in terms of money or resources but can have a profound impact on someone’s day or even their life.
  11. You only fail if you quit. As long as you keep trying, learning from setbacks, and pushing forward, you’re still on the path to eventual success. Obstacles and mistakes are just part of the journey, not the endpoint—unless you decide to stop altogether.
  12. What goes around, comes around. Some people call it karma, but it means your actions or behavior will eventually have consequences for you, even if indirectly. For example, if you treat others with kindness and respect, you’re more likely to receive the same in return. Conversely, negative actions will probably result in negative consequences for you down the line.
