How to STOP Procrastinating

By Nick Maker

We have all been there including I but how can we fix the problem and get our “me” time?

Well I have a list that can help you to better work and hopefully by the end of this list you will have more energy and have more time to do your gaming, or whatever it is you do in your free time; let’s begin!

1. STOP CHECKING EVERY BIT OF EVERYTHING

The common problem is one checking what time is it; oh I have a text message, emails, etc. STOP IT, you have to restrain things like mute your messages, lock up certain webs like twitter and throw away the key (metaphorically speaking.) Though if it’s truly an emergency then either try to ask your parents to give the password back for a brief moment or find your password in a secure hard to find place.

2. Reward System

Give yourself a reward after a hard long day’s work; like say you finish your essay or math problems and after 7:00 P.M you can now watch T.V. or play video games. Even better, you can finish your other activities that you always want to learn, like piano, or learn a new language, dance class, etc. Don’t make excuses that you don’t have the time if you manage right.

3. STOP SAYING I DON’T HAVE THE TIME

Like in my previous advice I said you can do it if you manage right, don’t make excuses! “Oh but I have this thing that I have to do,” really when? If you’re super tired and don’t want to take extra activities then ok that’s understandable. But if you say all day long “oh how I wish I could have taken Salsa class if I had the time…” Well you have a three hour gap if you finish your work, rest for an hour and take the two hour class. You just say to a mirror “yes I can manage!”

4. Plan ahead

Planning a schedule is essential; plan a timer that reminds you every thirty minutes when the next activity is and your brain will wire it like a routine. Also try to bring a bit of humor into your schedule; what I mean is, on my computer I have a schedule that every day when the schedule is starting it plays the “I hate Mondays” Garfield clip and at the end of the day it plays “phew now I can finally have my lasagna.” It’s something to at least get me in a humorous mood or some motive to hear that Garfield voice to keep my spirits up.

5. If you’re feeling the lack of energy

Take a ten minute break, or take some energy drinks, or the best way at least for me, go outside and head to the gym to clear your mind of things and when you head back home take a shower and continue to work. Your mind will be fully alert by then!

6. BE CREATIVE

If all else fails, create your own! It never fails if you make your own way to stop procrastinating!

About Nick… “I am a studious person who loves reading and loves researching about virtually anything! I play the piano and every year I have to give a performance in a church. I love video games – especially when it’s a puzzle and action game. I would like to become a programmer one day in the field of computer science. I love my family so much, even if we drive each other crazy sometimes, we’re still one big happy family.”
