Homeless Animals

By Alesha Dodd

“Cats and dogs are by far the most loved animals across the board” (Onegreenplanet). But, they also are two of the main animals to go homeless.

There are lots of animals in the world even though most of the world’s attention goes to cats and dogs. Most people rescue cats and dogs at shelters, but what about other animals that need love?

Cows, goats, chickens, pigs, reptiles, and even the wildlife. There are many other types of animals that suffer the abuse of being homeless, and there are many ways you can help get them off the street into shelter or home.

Donating is one of the top ways to help. Shelters need money to be able to feed and give the animals proper medical attention. The people that are helping could never do it on their own.

What this article is really about is to open people’s eyes about the facts about homeless animals.

Fact #1: 1 out of 10 cats and dogs that are born will find a permanent home (Dosomething).

Fact #2: The main reasons animals are in shelters: owners give them up, or animal control finds them on the street (Dosomething).

Many people adopt a puppy or kitten without actually understanding the responsibility that comes with it. They just want something to take pictures of and say “isn’t she/he adorable!” Then when the actual work comes in and gets too tiresome they may give the animal to a new home or shelter, though in some cases they just turn the animals out.

It seems that some of the world is more concerned with their animal’s pedigree than the animal themselves. Which in turn makes a lot of animals homeless, especially to careless breeding.

Ways to help our homeless animals: we could get most of our animals spayed/neutered, we could adopt from shelters, we could donate to animal shelters and other rescues.

If everybody would have a heart and be responsible, we wouldn’t have as many homeless animals….Thank you.
