Overview

“Most people don’t believe that Jesus is coming back. What if there was evidence that proves that this is all real?” From the book by Jay McCarl comes BEFORE THE WRATH, a powerful documentary that will reignite hope for believers and prepare the world for what’s coming.

Released during a pandemic when uncertainty has become the norm, BEFORE THE WRATH offers a timely reminder that the Bible promises Jesus’ return. But while scholars still debate the timing of the pre-tribulation rapture, over the past 2,000 years the message was lost on why this event is prophesied to occur in the first place; knowledge that was once understood by those in the first century.

Now researchers in the Middle East have discovered anthropological evidence from the time of Christ that reveals exactly how and why the rapture must occur. To fully present the impact this discovery has on the world, award-winning documentary writer and director Brent Miller Jr, reproduces what Jesus Christ told the ancient Galileans regarding the end of the world, and he does it through beautiful cinematic reenactments with over 60 actors and extras on a Hollywood set.

The Galilean Wedding

BEFORE THE WRATH unveils new Biblical insights as it explains the traditions and customs of a 1st-century Galilean wedding. The film shares archaeological findings that give more insight into how Galilean betrothals and weddings took place, and how this sheds light on the meaning of some of the things that Jesus said. It also talks about the Last Supper, and compares the wedding to the last supper. It explains why Jesus had to go away while he does not know the day and hour of his return.

Galilean weddings differed notably from the standard Jewish wedding of that period. Jesus was Galilean, and so were his disciples. He used common examples that they would understand. The Galilean nuances spoke volumes to the early church. A Galilean wedding betrothal lasted about a year, starting when both parties signed a legal contract with the townspeople as witnesses. Over the course of a year, the groom built an addition onto his father’s house where he would live with his new bride. It was the father of the bride who set the date for the wedding; neither the bride nor groom would know when it was going to be.

The groom would come to pick up his bride when his father told him it was time. BEFORE THE WRATH describes how the bride is lifted from the earth and carried to the groom. They had a little chair that she would step into, and two men would carry her over to the groom’s father’s house. The wedding ceremony was all about bringing the bride to the bridegroom’s house. People who were late to the wedding feast were not allowed in, because they had a year to get ready and they knew they were supposed to be ready, but they didn’t get ready in time.

The Bible is replete with references to weddings. Jesus’ first public miracle occurred at a wedding. The last supper is the offering of marriage to the bride from the bridegroom; i.e. the betrothal of Jesus to his church. The drinking of the cup is the acceptance of the offer of marriage. Jesus is the bridegroom and the church is His bride. God is the father, Jesus is the son.

Biblical Prophecy

Another thing the film frequently alluded to was prophecy. BEFORE THE WRATH warns us that ancient prophecy is being neglected. Prophecy provides proof that the Bible is true. Things were discussed hundreds, even thousands of years before they occurred. This documentary accuses some pastors of not caring about end-times prophecy, because it does not help them financially by building up their church membership, as the teaching may prove unpopular. Many others shy away from prophecy because they don’t want the end times to come; they just want to live their lives and let things continue on as they have been in the past.

BEFORE THE WRATH mentions very poignantly that a lack of belief in the end of ages leads to a dullness and a lack of caring for telling people about Jesus. Why should people care if things just keep going on and on, off into an unknown future? This documentary reminds us that the end will come someday. The date of the Second Coming is in His Father’s hands; even Jesus didn’t know when it was going to be. We can’t predict when it’s going to be. You have either prepared for it and are ready, or you have not prepared for it and you are not ready. You decide. But I suggest you follow Jesus.

Conclusion

The ancient evidence uncovered in BEFORE THE WRATH wasn’t the most earth-shattering information, but assuming it’s true, this is very interesting. If you find the rapture and end-times prophecies as mysterious as I do, and even if you are skeptical, this documentary will be very eye-opening. Just to clarify, the rapture is an event that can happen at any moment, in which believers will be removed from the earth and caught up in the arms of Jesus, but His feet will not touch earth. The Second Coming is the literal return of Jesus to establish His reign of justice and peace on earth.

BEFORE THE WRATH imparts new depths of theological understanding regarding what Jesus revealed to the ancient Galileans about the end of the world in ways you could never have imagined. It’s amazing how the more we know about Galilean wedding customs, the more we can understand what Jesus meant by some of the things he said, since He called the church His bride. The Galilean wedding foreshadows the glorious long-awaited day when all believers are finally united with Jesus, the Bridegroom, to be with Him eternally. BEFORE THE WRATH is an excellent resource for anyone interested in Bible stories, Biblical history, end times prophecy, or their eternity.
