Choosing a degree is a major life decision, and every student should take some time to weigh all of their different choices. While your interests are important, you must also take a look at how marketable your degree will be and what kind of jobs you can expect after graduating. If you are interested in computers, technology, or engineering, then take a look at these four degrees with excellent job placement opportunities.

1. Computer Science

Computer science has been one of the most marketable majors for over a decade, and the future is bright for those in this field. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, computer science students that focus on digital security can expect the field to grow by as much as 37 percent in the next few years. In addition to an increase in jobs, the median pay for security analysts remains well over $81,000 and is expected to keep growing.

2. Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineers can work in practically any field imaginable including entertainment, telecommunications, green energy, and aerospace research. Those with an undergraduate degree will often work as a “generalist” engineer while a master of electrical engineering will open up a number of additional specializations. Many engineers will also need on-the-job training to learn about the specific systems that their company uses.

3. Marketing

There are few degrees that will open up as many diverse opportunities as marketing. Much like electrical engineers, those with a degree in marketing can work for many types of companies in a wide variety of industries. Marketers are often hired by financial firms, but they can also fill a full-time position for any company as they run ad campaigns, social media accounts, SEO, email ads, PPC, newsletters, and more. The motor vehicle industry currently has one of the highest median wages for marketers at nearly $100,000.

4. Biomedical Engineering

In recent years, the field of medicine has gone through a transformation, and technology is used in the healthcare industry more than ever. Those that graduate with one of these degrees will enter into an exploding field with historically high wages. Currently, the three areas that pay biomedical engineers the most are physicians’ offices, specialized design services, and research and development facilities. Biomedical engineering careers are expected to grow by 27 percent between now and 2022.
