2018 STEM Scholarships Now Taking Applications

Two new STEM scholarships for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering and math have come to our attention this year…

Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship

Last year, a tech company called Dotcom-Monitor launched a scholarship specifically for women studying Computer Science. The idea for this scholarship was put in motion by Julia Garbuz, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota studying Computer Science and Management Information Systems while participating in a summer internship at Dotcom-Monitor.

The Women in Computing Scholarship is funded by Dotcom-Monitor and their load testing tool, LoadView. Dotcom-Monitor aims to encourage and support female undergraduate students who are pursuing careers in computing by assisting them with the rising cost of higher education. Each year one applicant will be selected to receive the Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship of $1,000 to support their education and pursuit of a career in computing.

The Dotcom-Monitor Women in Computing Scholarship is open to female students currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at an accredited college or university in the U.S. or Canada for the 2017-2018 academic year. Applicants should have either already declared their major or have completed at least one academic year in computer science, computer engineering, or closely related technical field.

To apply, please submit responses to the questions below along with your college/university transcripts (or other verification of enrollment/major declaration) and general information through the online application (all documents should be in PDF format). The deadline to apply is April 1, 2018, at 11:59 PM CST.

Submit essays answering the following three questions. One essay per question—max 500 words per essay.

  1. Tell us about yourself.
  2. What kind of power does the degree you seek hold? How does it affect our world today, and how do you plan to use your degree to further advance the field?
  3. Why do you think women should pursue computing? What can women provide to this field? How would you encourage women to join this field?
