Synopsis

While he’s always wrestled with the feeling of being “different” because he was adopted, 18-year-old David (Raphael Ruggero) is comfortable with his life. But then David’s world is suddenly turned upside down when his biological mother unexpectedly reaches out to him, longing to meet the son she’s only held once. Lovingly encouraged by his adoptive parents (played by Rebecca Rogers Nelson and Kirk Cameron), David embarks on a journey of discovery that leads to a shocking truth from his past.

Themes

David’s story is a powerful one of reconciliation, forgiveness, and love. LIFEMARK is filmed from the unique perspective of a person who was adopted at birth, while also delving into the background story of the adoption process. This encouraging and inspirational pro-life movie shows why it’s better to choose life over death, to give the child a chance for a happy life. Like the “butterfly effect,” one decision can impact so much more than one life—and that’s the heartbeat of LIFEMARK.

Comments

It’s great to see Kirk Cameron and the Kendrick Brothers teaming up again for the first time since Fireproof – one of my favorite movies! I had always hoped that they would someday make another movie together, and this is it! LIFEMARK is the perfect movie for Kirk to star in, since he’s an adoptive parent in real life.

Nevertheless, this story isn’t about Kirk Cameron and his family (though that would be interesting). LIFEMARK is based on the life of David Scotton as featured in “I Lived on Parker Avenue” – a short YouTube documentary that tells of a mother’s agony in choosing what’s best for her child, the joy of a couple starting a family, and a young man’s search for where his life began.

Long before the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe v Wade, plans were already in place for the filming and release of LIFEMARK, and the timing couldn’t be better. This movie about the wonders of adoption will serve as a great promotional film for adoption in lieu of abortion. The birth mother finds it so difficult to give up her newborn child, imagine the guilt she would have felt had she actually aborted it!

If you are a fan of Kendrick Brothers movies, you will be happy to know that LIFEMARK follows their usual formula. It’s a serious family drama interspersed with some hilarious moments. The Christian themes aren’t as overpowering as in their previous films, but they are definitely there, albeit in more of an understated way. LIFEMARK is a truly moving story that encourages all of us to remember that God has a loving plan for each and every life He knits together in the womb.

LIFEMARK is the first Kendrick Brothers movie to be released as a Fathom Event. All theaters where it’s showing will have 7pm showtimes, and many will have additional showtimes too. The movie is 2 hours long, and there will be an added-value element featuring Kirk Cameron and the Kendrick brothers immediately following the movie.

LIFEMARK is rated PG-13 “for some thematic material.” I assume it’s because of the scene inside an abortion clinic, but nothing graphic is shown or discussed. There is absolutely no foul language or anything else offensive in this movie. LIFEMARK doesn’t focus on the dark side of abortion, it focuses in on the bright side of adoption.

LIFEMARK is a sweet, positive, life-affirming movie that will touch your heart. Pick a date between September 9-15 and watch it with your family, friends, or church group!
