Here are our favorite paid app games that don’t cost very much, and have a ton of fun play value. Many of these also have themes that are perfect for playing on Halloween!
Plants vs. Zombies – One of the best tower-defense action games ever, Plants vs. Zombies is a favorite for all ages! In this award-winning game, a mob of fun-loving zombies is about to invade your home. Use your arsenal of 49 zombie-zapping plants — Peashooters, Wall-nuts, Cherry Bombs and more — to mulchify 26 types of zombies before they break down your door. Of course, the zombies have their own special skills, so you’ll need to think fast and have a successful strategy to combat them all. But be careful how you use your limited supply of greens and seeds — and beware of obstacles like a setting sun, creeping fog, and a swimming pool that add to the challenge.
Draw a Stickman – Draw a stickman, and then guide him through an epic world of adventure! The unique drawing mechanic is unlike any game you’ve ever played before! Remember “Harold and the Purple Crayon”? Well, now you can creatively use your drawing tools to solve puzzles and overcome obstacles just like he did. With the non-linear gameplay, how you get past one challenge will determine which level you unlock next. Draw your way through 14 levels (plus a hidden bonus level), each of which is filled with secrets and achievements, offering hours of replay value. (The free version only has three levels.) P.S. Watch for a stickman trick-or-treater and a Frankenstein monster.
Fruit Ninja – This juicy slash-em’-up action game will appeal to both ninjas and vegans! It’s one of the simplest, yet one of the most addictive and popular game apps. The only actual skill you need is to be able to quickly swipe your finger as the colorful fruits come flinging across the screen, to slice and dice the flying produce. The goal is to get as many points as possible – but be careful, don’t accidentally hit a bomb! Fruit Ninja features three action-packed gameplay modes – Classic, Zen and Arcade. It sounds ridiculous, but it’s truly one of the best games around. Who would have thought cutting up fruit could be so much fun! NOTE: The free version is just as good.
World of Goo – The full version of this award-winning game is now on Android! World of Goo got its start as a Wii game, which makes it ideal for your tablet. It’s essentially an oddly addictive physics-based puzzle game. Drag and drop living, squirming, talking, globs of goo to build structures, bridges, cannonballs, zeppelins, and giant tongues. Each level is strange and mysteriously beautiful, introducing new puzzles and the creatures that live in them. Along the way, discover new species of Goo Ball, each with unique abilities. It sounds weird but just buy it, you won’t regret it.
Earn to Die – You’re stranded in a desert surrounded by zombies. With only a run-down car and a small amount of cash, your mission soon becomes clear – you’ll need to drive across the desert, through the zombie hordes. Buy a car, upgrade your car, break down obstacles, enjoy ragdoll physics, earn money, win bonuses, and reach your destination alive! The hit online game series has been revamped and re-engineered for your mobile and tablet with more upgrades, levels, and awesome animated action than ever before! Survived the zombie apocalypse? Challenge your friends in Championship Mode! Or smash through pumpkins and unlock achievements in Halloween Mode!
