SAGU American Indian College (SAGU AIC) is a private Christian college in Phoenix, Arizona. SAGU AIC is the only fully accredited Pentecostal College with a focus on Native Americans, although it welcomes students of all ethnicities. Just a few miles north of downtown Phoenix, lies a beautiful campus filled with vibrant future leaders that represent over 30 federally recognized Native American tribes.
SAGU AIC was established in 1957 as a Bible institute by missionary Alta Washburn, who saw the need to prepare tribal members for church ministry. Over years of Pentecostal ministry, it has grown into a regionally accredited college offering multiple degree programs. In 2016, AIC partnered with Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU), becoming SAGU AIC.
SAGU AIC offers several on-campus degree programs: Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Bachelor of Arts, and Bachelor of Science. Or, they can choose an online degree through SAGU Online.
Majors include: business, elementary education, early childhood education, general studies, interdisciplinary studies, and church leadership. The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary holds seminars on the SAGU AIC campus for students working towards a master’s degree in Christian Ministry. The academic department chairs for each major hold an earned doctorate, and all full-time faculty hold at least a master’s degree in their field.
SAGU AIC students are a diverse group of students representing future ministers, educators, and businesspersons. At SAGU AIC, each student is able to prepare their minds, hearts, and souls to make a positive influence for their families, friends, and communities.
SAGU AIC offers its students several opportunities for ministry: Semester outreach programs are offered throughout Arizona, California, and New Mexico; there is an annual four-day trip to Mexico; there are summer ministry traveling teams throughout the country and also abroad; and there are also local church opportunities.
SAGU AIC encourages students to be fully committed Christians in all aspects of life. The students are required to participate in religious activities regularly, including attendance at all chapel services and weekly dormitory devotions.
All applicants admitted for study at SAGU AIC are expected to have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord and be striving to live a Christian lifestyle. They must evidence a born again spiritual experience as defined by John 3:3, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 2:11, Titus 3:5-7, and 1 John 1:7-10.
