Meet Jeremiah Coombes, 14-Year-Old Entrepreneur

My name is Jeremiah Coombes. I am a 14-year-old, born and raised in Nashua, NH, and currently living in Texas. I grew up in a family full of entrepreneurs.

My dad went to college for computer programming, and after he got laid off from his job, he wanted to work for himself. He started many businesses, such as business coaching, e-commerce, and now he works for himself as an insurance agent.

My mom earned a degree in Commercial Art Design and has been doing graphic design and managing multiple social media accounts for over 25 years. She also recently became a Certified Nutritional Health Coach and is a big supporter of healthy living.

Growing up in that kind of environment helped me and my six siblings develop the entrepreneurial mindset we hold today. All of my family members are successful in some shape or form. One is an original musical writer and composer, another is trained in maintenance and construction, my sister owns her own cottage bakery, one of my eldest brothers manages an entire department store, and another owns a multi-million dollar insurance agency.

And then there’s me. Growing up, I had the opportunity to help my brothers with most of their endeavors. My brother started a business shoveling snow in New Hampshire called “The Snow Rangers.” They would go anywhere around us offering their shoveling services, and about five years later, once I was old enough, I joined them.

At the age of 8, my brother and I started “JJ’s Lemonade,” where we sold lemonade, iced tea, and Italian ice to anyone who wanted some. Around the same time, we also washed cars to earn money for birthdays or just for spending.

Fast forward five years, and that’s when I started my business, “Toadally Nuts!” The idea for Toadally Nuts came from a conversation with my parents while sitting in the car. I told them, “All my other brothers have money and their own things to do, but I’m here with nothing to do.” Since I love to bake and cook and am gluten and dairy-free, I wanted to offer something to other people like me. And that’s when Toadally Nuts was born!

Two months after we had the idea, we started making it a reality. My mom designed a label and Facebook page, and a week later, we were up and running! About one month later, I had my first entrepreneur market for teens and kids. At my first event, I made $30 after working for over 13 hours. I can’t even begin to explain how disappointed I was. I wanted to give up then and there, forget about the whole idea, and move on with my life.

But I didn’t. Instead of giving up, I asked myself, “How can I make my product better?” and “How can I advertise/market my products to make more sales?” So I started working on a new business plan. I used better packaging, better labels and stickers, started offering stickers to kids, and most importantly, got a tablecloth with my logo on it to make the table look more attractive.

All that to say, don’t give up just because you had a bad turnout, day, or whatever it may be. Keep pushing until you reach that mark of success.

After I changed all of that, I had my next event and within four hours, I made over $250! That boosted my confidence and helped me keep pushing to make my business better. But you will never gain that confidence or push if you give up before you start.

I then looked at all the YouTubers I watched and saw the great impact they had on people’s lives. I thought to myself, “I want to do that. I want to do something that could change a life or even just change the direction of someone’s day.” So I started my YouTube channel “Jeremiah Coombes” where I try to spread positivity. My way of spreading positivity at the moment is through making people laugh because a simple laugh could make somebody’s day. I have also done a challenge to help save dogs around the world from off the streets and ended up donating $150 to charity.

I then thought about how I could help others be motivated to keep going and let their success shine. So, I just started my second YouTube channel a couple of days ago called “StayMotiv8ed” where I will create content on how to stay positive through life and train yourself to maintain a good, successful mindset.

Anyways, that’s my story. I’m just a small-town boy lucky enough to be born into a family with a mindset of success! But you don’t have to be born into a family of entrepreneurs to have a business mindset. Just keep looking up. If you have an idea, instead of pushing it aside, think about how you could make it a reality and work for it, because trust me, if someone like me can do it, I know you can too!
