Marian Sturz (1920-1998) was an extraordinary individual who led a fascinating life. She was a wife, mother, archaeologist, adventurer, intellectual, and even an international spy. Her husband was a Purple Heart recipient in WWII.
Often referred to as a real-life female Indiana Jones, Marian combined her love for family, appreciation of music, pursuit of education, and compassion for animals with a fearless spirit that took her to some of the most remote corners of the world.
Marian Sturz led a dual life in the Middle East during the 1950s and 60s, working for the CIA while breaking societal barriers as an archaeologist in a male-dominated field. Marian’s life and contributions continue to inspire and empower future generations.
Marian’s legacy lives on through the Sturz Legacy Scholarship, which supports students who share her inquisitiveness, sense of wonderment, kindness, and indomitable strength. The goal of this scholarship is “to honor the extraordinary legacy of Marian Sturz by empowering the next generation of pioneers in their chosen fields through education, inspiration, and opportunity.”
