Dear Readers,
Happy October!
I don’t know about anyone else, but for me, October 2024 has been a wild and crazy month. With company in town, and a new baby in the family, there’s been so much stuff going on, places to go, and people to see, that it’s been really busy at our house.
We were tricked with one cool week at the beginning of autumn last month. Since then, we’ve had a record heat streak of 21 days at 100 degrees or more, which is like 10 degrees above normal! So it’s still too hot to enjoy playing outside in the sunny backyard, but it continues to be a great time to go to the water park.
Finally, though, an end to the fall heat wave may be in sight. For the first time in 21 days, the Phoenix area is not expected to break a daily heat record today. Maybe we’ll even see some rain later this week, of which we hardly received any all summer.
It may be hot and dry here, but my prayers go out to all the people caught in the hurricanes. I hope you and your family weren’t impacted by the devastating winds and flooding. I know a little hot weather is nothing compared to that.
What has your fall been like where you live? Soggy and chilly, with afternoon rays of summer and nighttime hints of winter? Have you gotten your warm clothes out yet, or is the coat closet out of sight and out of mind?
October is known as the best harvesting month for many crops including apples, carrots, corn, grapes, onion, potatoes, squash, and of course pumpkins! Look around you. What signs of fall can you see, hear, taste, smell, and touch?
Happy Homeschooling!
