Background

Anne Wilson was born in Lexington, Kentucky in 2002. Growing up in a Christian home, she attended Tates Creek Presbyterian Church throughout most of her childhood. Her family often visited her grandparents’ farm in the Kentucky countryside. Anne learned to play the piano at age six, but as a child she had aspirations of becoming an astronaut.

Anne’s music career sprouted from tragedy when on June 7, 2017, her brother Jacob was killed in a car accident. This tragic event reaffirmed her faith, brought her closer to God, and she felt called to share the gospel of Jesus Christ through music. The 15-year-old sang publicly for the first time at her brother’s funeral. Later, a video of her singing “What A Beautiful Name” by Hillsong Worship on YouTube caught the attention of a talent scout.

Wilson signed a record deal with Capitol Christian Music Group in late 2019. On April 16, 2021, she released “My Jesus” as her debut single, which quickly gained popularity and solidified her presence in the Christian music scene. In 2021, her debut single “My Jesus” became a PLATINUM-certified single and No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Christian Airplay Chart. The song’s success made her the first debut female solo artist in chart history to reach No. 1, and it was even named ASCAP’s 2022 Christian Music Awards Song of the Year. Quite an impressive start!

So, Anne’s journey began with a heartfelt song, a record deal when she was just 17 years old, and a strong faith that carried her through life’s challenges. Since then, Wilson has tallied over 900M global streams, made her Grand Ole Opry debut, received a GRAMMY nomination for her 2022 album My Jesus, and wrapped her entirely sold-out headlining My Jesus Tour. Already named a Spotify Hot Country Artist to Watch, one of CMT’s Next Women of Country and a 2024 Opry NextStage Artist, she has made high-profile appearances on TODAY and ACM Honors, while earning her first-ever CMT Music Awards nomination, as well as a Billboard Music Award.

REBEL is Anne’s sophomore album, released on April 19, 2024. The “trailblazing album” (People.com) secured No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 spots on Christian, Country and all-genre charts respectively. REBEL Songs

Anne’s REBEL album features 16 tracks, all of which were written based on the banner question, “what does it mean to be a rebel in the world we live in today?” Each song was given a corresponding tagline and Bible verse, which should encourage listeners to delve more deeply into the meaning behind the lyrics. The taglines can be found in the REBEL physical CD or vinyl packaging booklet. Here’s an example:

A bold musical statement with an even bolder message of faith, “REBEL” by Anne Wilson is a foot-stomping and soul-stirring song that urges listeners to stand their ground and embrace their inner rebel following in the footsteps of David, Daniel, Moses and Jesus. Anne Wilson’s emotive vocals and the driving melody make this track a powerful anthem for anyone facing challenges.

The REBEL album also features her hopeful, healing debut Country single “Rain in The Rearview,” as well as chart-topping Christian radio ballad “Strong,” and the rollicking “Southern Gospel” – you’ll get a kick out of the way she describes “double wides and single mamas, back pew gossip, and beauty shop drama.” LOL!

“Songs About Whiskey” is such a fun song and don’t worry, it’s actually making fun of all those other country western songs. The lyrics draw a contrast between the allure of earthly pleasures like whiskey and the profound spiritual fulfillment found in Jesus.

For this album, Wilson collaborated with some of Christian and Country music’s biggest names, such as CMA Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson for “Praying Woman,” GRAMMY-Award winner Chris Tomlin for “The Cross,” and Country superstar Jordan Davis for “Country Gold.”
