Review

I know a lot of people use their Bible like a study tool by adding notes, highlights, and underlines as a way to engage more deeply with the text. That’s great!

But I’ve never felt comfortable with the idea of writing in my Bible. I guess I’m afraid I’ll mess it up or something, so I can’t bring myself to do it. Am I just weird, or can you relate?

Anyway, so when I saw the She Reads Truth Spiral-Bound Notetaking Bible, which is specifically made for writing in, I jumped at the chance to try it!

This notetaking Bible is pretty much the same version as the award-winning She Reads Truth Bible—minus the devotionals—in a unique spiral-bound layout and divided into five volumes. The five volumes are broken down as follows:

  1. Pentateuch: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy – The first five books of the Bible, consisting of foundational narratives, laws, and the early story of God’s people.
  2. Historical Books: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1–2 Samuel, 1–2 Kings, 1–2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther – These books trace Israel’s history from entering the Promised Land through exile and return.
  3. Wisdom & Poetry: Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs – This volume focuses on poetry, wisdom literature, and reflections on life, suffering, and worship.
  4. Prophets: Isaiah through Malachi – Includes both Major and Minor Prophets with God’s messages of warning, hope, judgment, and restoration as given through His messengers.
  5. New Testament: Matthew through Revelation – Covers the life of Jesus, the early church, letters to believers, and the book of Revelation.

I appreciate the fact that you can purchase the whole set at once, or buy each volume individually. The big advantage of separating the Bible into five spiral‑bound volumes is that it completely changes how approachable and study‑friendly the Bible becomes. Splitting it into volumes means you only have to carry the section you’re studying and concentrate on that. I started out with the New Testament.

A 2,000-page study Bible can be bulky and hard to hold open. A spiral‑bound book lays flatter, stays open better, and doesn’t fight you while you write. When you open this one, you can even turn the pages all the way around in back so you’re only looking at one page at a time, which is good if you’re easily distracted. I must say, the extra wide margins do leave a lot of black space, so be sure to make use of it so the paper won’t be wasted!

Each volume is 11.25” high and 9” wide, with a spiral that adds another 1.5” on the side. The golden spiral is thick and sturdy, and it looks a lot fancier than most spiral bindings. Also, unlike ordinary notebooks, this book is a HARDCOVER, so you don’t have to worry about the cover getting easily bent or torn off. The pages are printed on 8.5 x 11” paper. The book is 1 3/8” thick and rather heavy. The New Testament weighs 3 lbs 14 oz. It’s a bit cumbersome to hold, so it’s best for studying at a desk or table.

I like how the Biblical text is a 10-point type size for comfortable reading. The added content is 8.5-point, which differentiates it from the sacred scriptures. The CSB is one of my favorite translations, because it captures the Bible’s original meaning without sacrificing clarity. Note: this is not a red-letter Bible, if that’s important to you. I love how some key verses are artistically illustrated on a single page to bring out the beauty of the words.

The She Reads Truth Spiral-Bound Notetaking Bible is kind of a hybrid between a Bible and a journal. It looks more like a notebook – so if you’d rather not deface your favorite Bible, this is one that you can actually write in. Keep your special Bible for reading, while using this one as a workbook. If your Bible is a different translation, that’s even better so you can compare verses between the CSB and the KJV, NIV, or whatever. Overall, this notetaking Bible is a very practical addition to your Bible study tools, and when you’re done it will be a wonderful keepsake of your journey through the Bible!
