Check out the CSB Grace Bible for Kids! This is a really nice Bible! It’s actually one of the best Bibles I’ve ever seen. There are two versions: Hardcover and Blue Leather Touch. Both are 6” x 9”. I have the blue one, which has a soft leather-like cover that’s flexible and easy to hold. The colors are striking. The print is large and easy to read. I like the CSB translation, it’s a good honest translation. This is not a picture Bible, so it’s great for 7- to 12-year-olds. Although I wish they wouldn’t put “for kids” in the name because it’s fine for teens, too. I love it! Overall it’s a nicely designed, visually interesting Bible with unique features.
A Dyslexia-Friendly Bible!
Created in partnership with Holman Bibles, 2K/DENMARK and Cambridge University, the CSB Grace Bible for Kids is uniquely designed to enhance readability for kids with all levels and varieties of dyslexia, visual processing disorders, and other reading challenges. It’s great to see a Bible being produced with these special needs in mind! Nevertheless, this Bible is so pretty and fun to read, it would be good for anyone!
The CSB Grace Bible for Kids features an innovative and academically tested typeface, layout, and design principles. Specially designed features for easier reading include an 11-point font, distinct letter forms, and extra space between letters, words, lines, and paragraphs. In addition, it comes with a set of colored page overlays that were created by Cambridge University’s research department. These transparent colored sheets can be placed over the black and white pages to enhance clarity and reduce visual stress. With the lay-flat binding, it’s easy to do. The optimal color varies for each person, so they include ten different colors!
The Grace typeface used in the CSB Grace Bible for Kids was designed by visual experts at graphic design studio 2K/DENMARK specifically for dyslexics and those with dyslexic tendencies. They added weight on the bottom of letters to keep them on the baseline, and added certain embellishments so readers can better differentiate between similar letter forms. This surprised me, as I would have thought a clean minimalist sans-serif typeface would make for easier visual processing, but apparently not. Like most Bibles, the pages are thin, so you still get some bleed-through. But it does seem like the colored overlays help to offset that and let you concentrate on the page at hand.
Christian Standard Bible Translation
Part of what makes the CSB Grace Bible for Kids so readable is its faithful-to-the-original text CSB translation. The CSB’s optimal blend of accuracy and readability makes it a trustworthy, easy-to-understand resource that will grow with your kids as they grow in Christ. Dozens of colored reference pages and study helps are also inserted throughout the Bible to expand kids’ Bible knowledge and connect them to the people, places, and events they are learning about.
It’s wonderful to see kids with reading challenges experience for themselves the truth of God’s Word with the CSB Grace Bible for Kids. For example, one girl with dyslexia noticed a big difference in the Grace typeface. She said, “usually words go all wonky for me but … the words stand out more which made it easier to read. I don’t miss words or lines and they don’t move.” This Bible will give all kids the confidence to read, study, and memorize God’s Word on their own.
