Synopsis

Based on a remarkable true story, ORDINARY ANGELS centers on Sharon Stevens (Hilary Swank), a fierce but struggling hairdresser in small-town Kentucky who discovers a renewed sense of purpose when she meets Ed Schmitt (Alan Ritchson), a widower working hard to make ends meet for his two daughters. With Ed’s youngest daughter waiting for a liver transplant, Sharon sets her mind to helping the family and will move mountains to do it. What unfolds is an inspiring tale of faith, everyday miracles, and ordinary angels.

Story

The actual events unfolded in Louisville, Kentucky, in January 1994. Ed’s youngest daughter, Michelle, desperately needed a liver transplant and was at the top of the waiting list. They got the call just as a record-breaking snowstorm shut down the city during the overnight hours of January 16-17, 1994. The family only had a matter of hours while the organ was still viable to get to the Omaha children’s hospital 700 miles away. The roads and airport are closed. How will they get her there in time???

Review

ORDINARY ANGELS is an inspiring story about how a community of friends and strangers come together to help a little girl. The movie is both heart-wrenching and heart-warming. There is a lot of danger and prayer. It is touching and truly moving.

Swank’s character is a very flawed hairdresser who is a single lady with an alcohol problem and a son who hates her. Yet, her heart strings are tugged and she feels drawn to help a family in dire need. In turn, she cures herself by devoting her time and energy to helping them. Southeast Christian Church also plays a big part.

The acting in this movie is great, the cinematography is excellent, and it’s a film that’s made for the big screen. ORDINARY ANGELS is family-friendly but rated PG for thematic content, brief bloody images, smoking and alcohol use. Buy tickets today to see ORDINARY ANGELS in theaters starting February 23rd!
