YETI vs Conservative Women: Cancel Culture is Alive and Well

YETI, the well-known manufacturer of high-end coolers and drinkware, has been slammed with criticism after the company suddenly cancelled an order for $1,608 worth of custom-imprinted mugs.

The Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women, which mentors and educates young conservative women, attempted to reorder some seafoam green branded mugs with their logo, only to be told that the request violated YETI’s policies.

“We thought that cancel culture went out with 2024 but here we are,” the Center wrote in a social media post about the YETI ordeal. Kimberly Begg, president of the organization, said that they had successfully ordered the exact same item before!

However, this time, YETI rejected the order, stating that the phrase “Conservative Women” was deemed political.

“We wanted to include our logo on the mugs. This is something that we have done successfully before,” Begg explained. “We have shared these mugs with our speakers, who absolutely love them. But the name of our organization is the Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women, so we wanted to include ‘conservative women’ on the mugs. And YETI came back and said, nope, can’t do it. The word ‘conservative’ is political, and so we cannot fulfill your order.”

The Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women is the only organization that specializes in providing conservative education, mentorship, and camaraderie to help young women flourish in all areas of their lives. The Center is a nonprofit organization, which by law means they are non-partisan and non-political. They simply want to put their logo on a mug, and hand them out as gifts for speakers and mentors.

It’s a sad day when a well-known company claims the word conservative is political. The funny thing is, YETI cited its policy against customizing products with political affiliations or associations to ensure neutrality and prevent the use of its products for divisive purposes. But it’s hypocritical for YETI to call themselves “non-political” when they cancel an order placed by a conservative women’s group and yet donate to LGBTQ+ groups. If you go to the YETI website, you will see the company is all about DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) goals.

The Clare Boothe Luce Center for Conservative Women controversy is not the first time YETI has found themselves in hot water from their conservative customers. In 2018, gun owners infuriated by the company’s decision to end its National Rifle Association (NRA) discount programs shared videos of them shooting at YETI coolers. The trend to destroy Yeti coolers became so popular among NRA members that it was tagged the #YetiCoolerChallenge on social media.
