Dear Readers,
Summer is in full swing! Are you planning a beach outing, road trip, national park adventure, or all of the above? What did you do for the Fourth of July weekend?
I was feeling a bit under the weather after getting back from vacation, so I stayed home to rest, relax, and watch movies. But I couldn’t stop thinking about the heartbroken families in Texas Hill Country who lost their homes and loved ones. I’ve been to Ingram and Kerrville, TX. They’re like the quintessential American small towns. The Guadalupe River looked so calm and peaceful when I was there. It’s shocking and tragic that the Fourth of July flood brought such devastation to residents and visitors alike, including the little girls at the Christian camp. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved, including the rescuers who tried so hard but couldn’t save them all. So sad!
My family traveled to Oregon and Washington in June. Those snow-covered volcanic mountains are so ridiculously huge, they look like matte paintings in the background! The Pacific Northwest is beautiful at this time of year with lots of colorful flowers on the roadsides, in the fields, and wild rhododendron bushes growing in the forest! We got to stay a couple of extra days after our return flight was cancelled, so we had time to see a Japanese garden and walk on a trail through the woods. For someone who loves moss and ferns, that was my kind of place! Ivy grows naturally there, too, climbing up the trees! Here’s a photo of Mount Rainier in Washington:
Whatever you do this summer, I hope you’ll have a safe, relaxing, fun time. Wishing you sunny days, exciting activities, and pleasant memories.
Happy Homeschooling!
