Charlie Kirk on Homeschooling

Charlie Kirk was not homeschooled himself, but he strongly endorsed homeschooling, calling it the future of American education and a powerful tool for parental empowerment.

On The Charlie Kirk Show, he interviewed Leigh Bortins of Classical Conversations, discussing how homeschooling supports classical education and faith-based learning.

In a video titled Why Homeschooling is the Future of Education, Kirk outlined why homeschooling is rising fast and why he believes it “beats public schools.”

Kirk made numerous public statements and hosted discussions emphasizing the benefits of homeschooling. Kirk’s advocacy reflects a broader conservative movement emphasizing educational freedom, religious values, and skepticism of government-run schooling.

Key Points

Critique of Public Education

Kirk argued that the public school system is failing, citing ideological bias, lack of academic rigor, and diminishing moral values.

Parental Control and Freedom

He championed homeschooling as a way for parents to reclaim control over their children’s education, especially regarding curriculum and values.

Faith and Patriotism

Kirk believed homeschooling fosters stronger Christian values and love for America. He said it helps raise children who are “more polite, smarter, wiser, happier, more purposeful, less corrupted, more understanding, more battle-ready, better prepared, less confused, more biblical, more grounded, more Christ-like.”

Academic Success

He pointed to research showing that homeschooled students outperform their public school peers on standardized tests, with SAT scores averaging 1190 compared to 1060.

Future Leadership

In an Instagram clip titled Are Homeschooled Kids “Weird” or Wise?, Kirk boldly claimed that critics of homeschooling may one day work for homeschooled students, rejecting the old stereotype that homeschoolers are “weird” and arguing instead that they are “wise” who will run society in the future.

Homeschool to College

Kirk was also a vocal critic of the higher education system in America. He was obviously highly educated but did not have a college degree, a fact he noted in debates with academics and students.

In 2022, Charlie Kirk published The College Scam: How America’s Universities Are Bankrupting and Brainwashing Away the Future of America’s Youth.

In his book, Charlie detailed what to look out for if you are considering college and described the ways college can be a waste of time and money. He said it’s important to choose your college and discipline of study wisely.
