Review

The Enduring Word Study Bible will enable you to read, learn, and study the Bible with the guidance of pastor and Bible teacher David Guzik. If you aren’t in a Bible study group – and even if you are! – his commentary will help you immensely as it’s thoughtful, straightforward, and relatable to everyday life.

The Bible introduction offers a brief essay on how to come to the Bible, including believing there is a God, believing the Bible is God’s message to humans, and knowing that it’s reliable, as well as describing how one can best experience God’s Word.

The book introductions include geographical, historical, and cultural information, while exploring key themes and telling you what to look for in the book that you’ll be reading. Commentary throughout each chapter offer additional insights, and footnotes provide extra information.

The special articles discuss Bible truths in further depth like “The Character of God’s Wisdom,” “Before the Beginning, and “What Is the Gospel?” The Pastoral Application Notes connect biblical teachings to daily life, making Scripture more actionable.

This Bible offers a personal approach in “Getting to Know God,” which describes who God is and who we are, how we can come to know God by responding to His invitation, and how we can develop a relationship with Him by reading the Bible, loving the truth, praying, and following the Holy Spirit’s leading.

The Enduring Word Study Bible is a good size at 9.25 x 6.25 inches. It weighs about 3 pounds and is 1.75 inches thick. The flexible leathersoft cover makes it easy to hold and turn the pages. The paper is a decent thickness, too. Narrow margins don’t waste space, so more of the page can be filled with useful information.

Thomas Nelson is a reputable Bible publisher that’s been around for over 200 years. The New King James Version of the Bible preserves the authority and accuracy, as well as the rhythm and beauty, of the original King James Version while making the text more understandable to current readers.

The font style and spacing is comfortable on the eyes, making God’s Word clear and readable. The layout is engaging, making God’s Word inviting and approachable. The commentary is printed in smaller text, blue letters, and/or with blue borders, to clearly differentiate it from the sacred scriptures. The concordance with over 200 word studies, translators’ notes, and cross-references adds more substance to the reading.

The Bible comes in a slipcase that’s a little flimsy but protective enough. I love the beautiful brown leathersoft binding with gold stitching, gold gilded page edges, and two satin ribbon bookmarks (blue and gold). My chemist husband couldn’t help but notice the Books of the Bible chart, which looks like a periodic table!

This would be a great first study Bible, as well as a trusted study resource for any Christian. Get one for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
